A Brief History of the Warner Fish and Game Club
- by Bob Koski
The Warner Fish and Game Club was initially founded in 1948 and first incorporated August 15, 1952. Some of the first members were Art Brown and Dr. John Shroeter. Initially fifteen acres were purchased for the club property from Adolphus Holton, Jr. and his wife M. Elizabeth Holton on January 17, 1955. The early members literally built the clubhouse with their own hands. Much of the planning and work was initially done by Ben Hunt. The original 24'x32' clubhouse with full basement and fireplace was completed in 1952.
Some of the founding member were Misters Mock, Holton, and Holmes. Early members were Fred Whitman, Manely Glanville, Charley Bologna and Charlie Bean. Dr. John Shroeter had meticulous records of the Fish and Game Club from its inception and we will make an effort to retrieve them if possible.
A rear 24'x20' meeting room addition was constructed in 1985 and the interior was finished in 1990. The firearms shooting range was finished and operating in 1997 and a 3D archery range was added in 1998. Each year many students are state certified for completion of firearms safety courses and a state certified archery course was added in 1998.
For many reasons the club faltered in early 1990s. The club was reorganized and resurrected in the fall of 1995 by members and led by Bob Koski, Allie Mock and Charlie Bologna. New members were brought into the club, books were put in order, proper insurance policies purchased and plans pushed forwad for a firing range. A "good neighbor" policy was initiated and a membership drive was started with a new spirit injected into the Fish and Game Club.
